Oriental Dance Arts Classes

Oriental Dance Classes for Preteens
(9 to 11 years old) and youth (teenagers)

Introduction to the richness of Middle Eastern Dance – – – including basic understanding of various cultural influences on the dance, thereby explaining why it could be called multicultural bellydance.

Classes emphasize flexibility training, fun, fitness, and socializing in a safe environment.  Dancing makes you smarter, releases stress in kindly ways, and is an excellent creative outlet for confidence and self-esteem independent of shape, skill level, age or gender.

For parents, this is a fabulous return on investment for your teen or preteen family member.

Oriental Newcomers Class
(adults)

Welcome to an anti-aging beautiful dance movement activity that will help rejuvenate your energy.Be thrilled when Oriental dance helps release physical flow in the body by gently re-aligning to your natural posture.  Be pleased with learning how muscle isolations and emotions are connected, and the joy that can come from realizing you can modify your moods and attitude with this knowledge.

There is respectful honour of body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  Emphasis is on flexibility, fun, fitness, and cultural influences for interpreting music through your body movements independent of shape, skill level, age, or gender. No prior experience required.

Drop-ins are possible, by arrangement.

Sufi Whirling Meditation

This is an exquisite meditation in motion – – a spiritual practise based in Sufi mystic tradition, rather than a dance form.  However, it is undeniably valuable for training for spins and oriental veilwork.

One aspect, the ritual whirling of the universal dervishes is an act of love and a drama of faith that is 7 centuries old.  The turning of the whole body in this way is seen as a part of the natural order of things.  In nature, many things are revolve or circulate such as electrons and protons in atoms ; blood in our bodies ; the movement of the earth and stars.  The practicing individual transcends the doorway between heaven and earth to a place of spiritual ecstasy.  Suitable for all ages.

Persian Dance

A blend of classical and traditional folklore styles, acquainting you with beauty, grace, and a total body workout (like a Persian Zumba!)  Persian Dance is distinguished as having different hip and torso moves than Oriental Dance.  There are graceful hand/arm motions, coordinated headslides & arm movements and some unusual quivers and facial expressions. All ages and genders welcome.

No prior training required.

Tribal Happy Hour

Drop-in format where participants require some minimal prior training in American Tribal Style Bellydance curriculum.  Not intended to offer any concurrent formal instruction.

($2 to $5 free will donation suggested for use of the space and facility).
